Storybook Archives - LIFE in Rhyme

Project: LIFE (Lifeline to Independence for the Elderly)
Organization: American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter
Buffalo, NY
by four St. Francis High School LIFE student volunteers

Midway along the path of Delaware Avenue
Stands an old stone building with a cross
It was this institution whose meaning the Friar knew
LIFE

It gives LIFE back to those from whom it had been lost
To some who were barely alive, others too old to drive
Yet, still being guided by Coleridge’s albatross

In their old age, many freedoms have been deprived
But with the help of our teen volunteers
We’ve taught them that their independence can survive

We’ve brought them happiness in their elderly years
We do what they want, whatever it may be
And brightened their days, bringing them great cheers

It’s giving them joy and tremendous glee
Helping the aged to live prosperously
Lifeline to Independence For the Elderly
