"It’s tough enough being in the hospital with pneumonia. But when the city is also threatening to fine you because your house needs painting, it’s not easy to cope.
That was the predicament Wayne Whittle found himself in last year.
But the 76-year-old south Kansas City resident started getting some unexpected help before he even left the hospital.
When the Kansas City Fire Department answered Whittle’s 911 call, firefighters noticed that his house needed repairs.
They notified the Visiting Nurse Association’s Citizen Assist Program."
